About Me

My name is Jay and I am the artist behind ViewsandOddities.com!

For most of my life I have been quietly creating art for myself. I have decades of sketchbooks and paintings that were, in a way, a sort of therapy for me. I am self taught, though I have studied the traditional methods and techniques on my own through books, classes, etc. For me art is a very personal endeavor, the pieces I make and the designs I create are all very important to me. They become little expressions of something in my mind, and often expose something I hadn't initially meant to express. My abstract work is where this is most represented. Often as someone absorbs it, they will tell me how it affects them or how it makes them feel, and I realize that I somehow feel it too. It may not have been what I was reaching for, but I subconciously expressed it and it took another person's eyes and experiences to show it to me, and I find that cathartic. That's what I love about art in all it's forms.

This project came about due to the pandemic. I was laid off early in 2020. I was looking for work, and I had a lot of time on my hands. I had recently moved to another state, and I had been run around by the unemployment departments from both states, which left me with no money from unemployment (to this day I have not seen a cent for the 4 months I was out of work. That's for another day). So within this stress I needed an outlet. Art has always filled that void.

I put this site together and featured some designs and art I made along with the photographs I have taken over the years. I will be uploading the original art soon, and I am always putting together new designs. I hope you find something that you love, or you connect with, or that you simply enjoy looking at!
